CONTEXT
A 40-year legacy needed a digital home that matched his reputation.
Rod Chow is an award-winning magician with over 40 years of experience performing at corporate events, weddings, and private shows. Despite his legendary status in the magic community, his website was holding him back from reaching new clients.
THE PROBLEM
The old site wasn't converting curiosity into bookings.
The existing website had three critical issues that were losing potential clients:

Outdated design
The site felt stuck in the early 2000s, undermining Rod's credibility as a world-class performer.

Money Magic. Roving Magic. Gala. Sleight of Hand. Etc.
Confusing service structure
Magic industry jargon and unorganized content made it unclear what types of events Rod performs at, leaving potential clients unsure if he was right for their needs.

Overwhelming booking form
The contact form asked for too many details upfront, creating friction for interested clients who weren't familiar with magic industry specifics.
RESEARCH
Learning from the best in the industry.
I audited 5+ magician and performer websites to understand what makes clients confident enough to book.
KEY INSIGHTS
Organize by event type, not magic tricks
Successful sites structure services around client needs (corporate, wedding, private) rather than technical magic categories.
Lead with credibility
Awards, media features, and testimonials need to be visible immediately to build trust.
Strategic direction
Working with the brand designer, we positioned Rod's site as a legacy showcase rather than a hard sell, celebrating his achievements while making booking easy!
SOLUTION
Credibility first
The page showcases Rod's awards, media features, and signature magic styles, positioning him as an industry legend.
Clear service structure
Visitors quickly find what's relevant to them without decoding magic terminology.
Simplified contact form
Prominent CTAs throughout the site and a simplified contact form make it easy for clients to inquire or book, no matter where they are in their journey.
Mobile-optimized experience
The site works on all devices, ensuring clients can explore Rod's work and reach out whether they're on their phone or desktop.

After 10+ iterations and many late nights, here’s what I learned…
Design + Brand Sync
We were building the brand and the website at the same time, so nothing stayed still for long. As the brand designer explored the brand direction, I experimented with bringing it into UI — designing elements like the glowing ring, thinking of interaction ideas, and figuring out how the brand could feel alive on the site. We kept bouncing ideas back and forth, helping each other shape something cohesive.
