A note from Patty

I’m drawn to craft, intention, & the care behind how things are made, digital or otherwise. Under capitalism, making has a funny way of becoming output. It is easy to forget why I liked design in the first place.

To me, design is an exercise in borrowing someone else’s eyes. Walking through an experience as they might, noticing its frictions and rhythms, and developing an attunement to what it asks of them.

And in part, I just like chasing imaginary what ifs to see if anyone else sees something in them too.

Palm Springs

I got to visit Frey House II in Palm Springs. There’s a boulder in the living room, and I love that Frey let the natural terrain have the final say in his design. He spent five years searching for the ideal hillside location and a full year tracking the movement of the sun before construction began. I keep thinking about the patience that takes, and how much I want to bring that kind of care to my own work.
